"Teaching and tutoring might not have been my first choice when I graduated high school, but my experience in the challenging labs during my undergraduate program solidified my passion for education. It became evident to both my peers and me that I was meant to be a teacher. I've always had a gift for breaking down more complex topics into much easier-to-understand material. My background of teaching for eleven years at a Title 1 school means I learned flexibility, how to teach far more than all areas of elementary content, and collaboration with all stakeholders was integral.
I spent enough time being a student, both in undergrad and graduate classes, as well as in professional development, to know that boring classes benefit no one. So, I aim to keep my lessons engaging and have often used technology to allow my students to take the lead of the lesson. This gives me a chance to assess where my students need help, and they have some fun with whichever app we're using (or with simply writing on the whiteboard) at the same time.
I've tutored after school and during the summer at Keithville, as well as for a different online platform. I also tutored last year after school at St Joseph Catholic School, and taught online during the COVID year (2020). I've helped students with targeted lessons in math, science, social studies, and ELA. I've tutored mostly third through fifth graders, though I had one kindergartener in one group of science. I've taught for thirteen years in three different schools, in two parishes and a private school. (Here in LA, we have parishes instead of counties.) I am certified to teach regular education grades 1-5, and mild/moderate special education grades 1-5.
I want to help students I work with as much as I can. I welcome any resources or suggestions from parents or guardians. I am easy to reach and always provide fast responses. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a session!" less...
