"Bonjour, I’m Martyn, and I’m here to help you learn – or improve in – French!
I graduated from Edinburgh University in Scotland with an MA in French – and a distinction in spoken French – in 1998, after which I spent several linguistically enlightening years living and working in France and Luxembourg. This period included a year teaching in a middle school in Saint-Nazaire and a year teaching young adults at the University of Metz. These experiences resulted in me acquiring an elevated level of comprehension, speaking, reading and writing in French, abilities that were recognized when I was awarded membership of the Chartered Institute of Linguists in 2021.
Over the past 25 years, I have been fortunate to be able to use French on a daily basis in my translating, editing and training roles, during which time I worked for major clients such as FIFA and the International Olympic Committee. Within the last decade, online French tutoring, which originally began as an extra part-time service I offered, has gradually morphed into my full-time job.
Whether you are a middle/high school student needing a bit of extra help or an adult heading off to a French-speaking country on vacation, I will always strive to make our tailored sessions engaging, enriching and straightforward. I use lesson plans in which I introduce the topic in an enjoyable and original way, then explicitly teach the material. Afterwards I always make sure there is time for the student to practice the material on their own. Obviously, this method can be adjusted based on the student’s level and individual needs.
I want the time I spend with students to be as beneficial as possible, so I welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. I will always get back to your queries in a speedy manner. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for a free consultation meeting, to schedule a lesson, or for any additional information you might need. A bientôt !" less...
