"Hello! My name is Dustin, and I have a passion for learning and helping others realize their potential. Throughout my time in school and during my professional engineering career, tutoring and mentoring my fellow students and peers have been in step with my own personal development goals. I strongly believe in giving back when you can, and that is why I am thrilled to be here!

Tutoring while I pursued my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2013) strengthened my understanding of the material and proved to be a truly rewarding experience. For three years in a tutoring center, I tutored ages ranging from 17 to 50 in arithmetic through Calculus III, and pre- and calculus-based physics. During that time, I also tutored one-on-one off-campus with a high school student taking AP Calculus BC and a college student in their 30’s taking Calculus I & II.

As a nuclear test engineer (2013-2023), for two years I tutored engineers-in-training to pass their 2.5-year milestone journeyman oral examinations. Over seven years, I served as a mentor to three engineers, providing guidance on both technical and professional matters. The most prominent technical topics covered were fluid dynamics, heat exchange, filtration, hydraulic and pneumatic system design, fluid system simulations, and relief sizing.

My tutoring approach has changed over time, but my core principles remain the same. First, I believe that seeking help can make us feel vulnerable, and that ensuring others feel heard is one of the best ways to recognize and overcome that vulnerability. Second, I endeavor to be humble. I will not always know an immediate solution, but I will always communicate that up-front. Third, I believe that learning isn't always easy, and so I aspire to meet difficulty with patience and empathy. And most importantly, I believe in encouraging the student to lead whenever possible to develop their confidence. A tutor will not always be there. In the end, a student must stand on their own, and that is what I prepare them to do." less...
