"Hi! I’m Megan! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. In university, I discovered my love of language and its ability to connect people. I was fascinated by how words could shape thoughts, emotions, actions, and even culture. This passion led me to pursue a career where I could use my skills to make a positive impact on others. I strive to inspire others to see the beauty and power of language. I enjoy finding new ways to make learning fun and exciting. I also ensure that my students have time and different ways to practice the material on their own. I strive to ensure that my lessons are accessible to all students, regardless of their educational needs. My goal is to help people communicate more effectively and connect more deeply with one another.
I have over 12 years of experience in education, with over 7 years of experience working with English as a second language learners, ranging in age from middle school to adult. When I worked for the Washington state school system, I taught students from countries ranging from Mexico and Guatemala to Chuuk and the Philippines the English language while also tutoring them in their general classes. This job involved everything from finding creative ways to make their classes more accessible to helping them prepare for University or Trade school.
Upon returning to North Carolina, I worked at a non-profit, Reading Connections, teaching adults from various countries, such as Sudan and El Salvador, English language skills as well as helping them to navigate their new country. This position involved helping them find healthcare as well as aiding them with school forms for their children.
Working with students and seeing their joyful expressions when they succeed is truly rewarding for me. I enjoy coming up with new ways to teach and always welcome feedback or resources to aid my students better. I am easy to reach and strive to provide prompt responses. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
