"Hi, I’m Cecile! I have a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing, and a Graduate Certificate in the Online Teaching of Writing. I learned during my time in college that each of my classmates’ goals were different, and I appreciated professors who took the time to address the individual needs of students. As a result, I will take time to get to know you and prepare lesson plans that will help you reach your goals. My superpower is patience. I will always take time to make sure you understand the material before moving on.
I have been a tutor for over ten years, and have worked with people of all ages, from elementary school age to adults. When working with high school students, for example, I emphasize the importance of addressing the assigned prompt and staying on topic. Using examples, we discuss the introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. I instruct students on how to create an outline and a first draft. We also review grammar, spelling, and syntax. As we work toward the final draft, my goal is to see you become a confident writer.
I have worked in a literacy program as an instructor for seven years. Many of my students are non-native English speakers. Six of them have had their essays appear in online publications. I successfully transitioned the program to online classes during the pandemic. The majority of my students still prefer learning online. During online writing lessons, I use the interactive tools available in the program so we can work on lessons simultaneously. The classes I teach range from 4-10 adults, as well as one-on-one sessions. Creating the curriculum and writing the lesson plans are also my responsibility.
Writing is an important skill, and it would be my pleasure to help develop that skill. Let’s work together to reach your goals. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson." less...
