"I'm Kate, and I've been teaching & tutoring reading, writing, and literature at different grade levels for 20 years. I started my teaching career in Ilsan, South Korea, in 2004 as a pre-K and elementary ESL teacher. I loved working with my classes there and took on private tutoring opportunities as well, helping middle-school students with vocabulary and writing exercises. After a year, I returned to the US to earn my MA & PhD in English Lit and my TESOL certificate, working with a mix of international students learning ESL and native English speakers learning to write college-level essays. I continued private tutoring during this time as well, working online with elementary and middle-school students back in South Korea on their English language skills.

Since then, I've taught both writing and literature classes at the undergrad level which has given me a lot of experience in both the classroom and mentoring individual students in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and essay structure. I thrive in these one-on-one settings because I believe people thrive the most in education when they are seen and treated as a full human.
