"Hello! I'm Patty. I graduated with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. During college I worked as a waitress and also as a store clerk. After graduation, I worked as a legislative assistant for our State Representative until I married and had children. At that point I was fortunate to be able to become a stay-at-home mother and work on our dairy farm. I homeschooled our three children and taught at our homeschool co-op. During this time, I also operated my own gluten-free bakery and organic produce stand and did the accounting work for our farm. My children entered public school when I suddenly developed epilepsy ( 11th, 10th, and 9th grades ). Once my epilepsy was under control, I entered the public school and worked as an aide in the learning support classroom where I helped students to develop their reading and math skills. I found this to be especially fulfilling. I love to see students gain confidence in their abilities. After a few years, my seizures returned and I then turned to online tutoring. I have been working as an ESL teacher and I have enjoyed this tremendously. I have discovered that accounting is not what I was made for. I was destined to be a teacher. I truly believe this is my calling.

My students are each important to me. I strive to give each student my best. I believe that we learn well through our mistakes and I provide a safe classroom where students are encouraged to challenge themselves to try difficult things. There is no 'one size fits all' approach to learning. I adapt my classes as necessary to benefit each student and find their unique learning style. I think it is very important to empower students and help them to gain confidence.

I want to see every student succeed and therefore I welcome any resource suggestions or feedback that parents or students wish to provide.
