"I was an EFL instructor at a Japanese university for a good many years, until I decided to embark on my life long dream of becoming a novelist in Alaska. Alas, now that I'm here in the Great Land (Alaska), I find I honestly miss teaching. Hence, I have opted to have lessons online, so that I may still enjoy my Alaskan dream.

My pupils will find me a congenial sort, with myriad experiences and skills to my name, for as a younger man I was never content to be chained to a 9 to 5 (regular job). My adult life began as a soldier-medic in the US Army, whereby my jaunts abroad began in earnest, albeit sometimes to unsavory destinations. Following my military stint, I enrolled into college, while concurrently working full-time as a caterer, making the most delicious of dishes. After taking my undergraduate degree in Communications, I ventured to the Orient, where I consigned my luck to fate, sampling a large variety of cultures before I settled down in Japan. I stayed fully 24 years in the Land of the Rising Sun, so am quite familiar with its language and culture, and am enamored with both.

What makes me a proficient instructor? I suppose several factors, really. First of all, I have many years of teaching under my belt, so am well-versed in what works and what doesn't. Secondly, I am anything but boring in my classes, giving my full attention to my students wants and needs. Thirdly, I keep careful records of each student's progress, and plan my lessons accordingly. My areas of specialization include ESL/EFL, TOEFL, and proofreading, with a further specialization in medical documents and research papers for the latter.

At all times, I endeavor to make my lessons informative and interesting, encouraging my pupils to inquire into my erstwhile adventures, while sticking to the curriculum targets. If English can become the means to learn even more skills and knowledge, all the better. The best lessons are those which are a joy to student and teacher alike, and in no way feel like "work"." less...
