"I’m Macy! I am a graduate of Greenville University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish. I am also an Intensive English Professor at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. Here, I teach a diverse group of students. While attending Greenville University, I studied abroad for four months in Costa Rica. During this time, I volunteered at a tutoring center where I taught academic classes to Spanish-speaking students. I have also taught English as a second language as an online teacher for VIPKid and tutored English learners in the United States. I quickly realized just how passionate I was about teaching English and decided to continue training online for a TEFL certification. At Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, I teach Listening and Speaking, Reading and Writing, Vocabulary and Grammar.

I love teaching all things English, especially English as a Second Language. I find that by using a methodology based on student-led teaching, students are much more likely to become confident in their skills. As a professor and a tutor, I often approach my lessons in a way that engages and excites students. To fully ensure that students comprehend the different parts of English, we will explore the topics multiple ways to continue strengthening their understanding.

Through working with VIPKid and at the university, I have been given numerous opportunities to work with children and adults. While I spend most of my time teaching adults now, I still love teaching children and can help grow their comprehension of the language as well. I have worked with children of all ages through being the Associate Director of Brain Balance, substituting in schools, teaching martial arts and tutoring on VIPKid.
