"Hi, I'm Will!

I've been teaching math one-on-one for 15+ years. I started in high school, tutoring my peers in a variety subjects -- geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. In college, I continued to tutor in math -- mainly algebra, discrete math, and calculus. While pursuing my MS and PhD, I taught logic classes to undergraduate students, and expanded the topics that I tutored -- graph theory, logic, game theory, decision theory, topology, and category theory, to name a few.

I received perfect scores on the ACT, SAT, and GRE math sections, and am equipped to tutor in any of these. I've studied, tutored, or taught nearly any math topic you'll find at the HS/undergrad level: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, discrete math, probability theory, graph theory, topology, game theory, combinatorics, decision theory, propositional logic, predicate logic, model theory, category theory, and more. I have a BS in Mathematics (Gonzaga University), and an MS and PhD in Logic, Computation, and Methodology of Science (Carnegie Mellon University).

I'll also say a few words about my teaching philosophy. I think it is important to adapt one's teaching style to each student -- in fact, this is why I enjoy tutoring in math 1-on-1.

Many students struggle with math not because they cannot perform the reasoning involved, but because the material was framed using foreign vocabulary or concepts. Once things are presented in more familiar terminology, they will often 'click' for the student. I am well-practiced at identifying these points of disconnect, and re-framing the material in a way that is friendlier to the student." less...
