"I majored in math in college and got a master's degree in Statistics from Stanford. I taught in secondary schools and community colleges for over 50 years, and after I retired I found that I was missing the contact and satisfaction that comes from interacting with students. So I got a position as a math tutor for Excel Tutoring Academy in Summerlin, Nevada, and for the past four months have been working about half time. My students have ranged from 3rd to 11th grade. Subject matter has been algebra, geometry, trig, pre-calc, and statistics. I recently ran a workshop to prepare students for the AP Stat exam.

I try to figure out each student's approaches, strengths, etc., and act accordingly. That's the challenge of teaching. Many times students are made to feel inadequate in math, and I HATE THAT! People's thought processes are so variable, and it's fascinating to me to work them out so I can figure out how to help them the most.
