"Hello, I’m Claire! I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Music (piano performance), and a Master of Science in Psychological Science. I appreciate the educational process as a whole; not just receiving, but also giving. I had professors who were willing to learn from their students’ needs and points of view, just as their students learned from them. I bring these same flexibilities to my tutoring, believing learning can and should be a collaborative experience. Methods vary depending on the subject and student’s needs, but my general format is: I get to know my student, and create a custom lesson plan for every tutoring session with the material, the student’s learning styles, and their personality in mind. After a warm-up activity, I teach the material using a range of methods. I like the “I do, We do, You do,” model of teaching, and leave time for students to practice with myself and on their own to ensure conceptual mastery.
I have eight month’s worth of teaching and tutoring experience as a Substitute Teacher in general education classrooms ranging from Pre-K through 12th grades. I taught in a classroom-wide capacity, also working directly with students via small groups and one-on-one. In one of my long-term assignments with seventh graders, I pulled students into small groups of 4-5 every day, working with those I noticed struggled with the lesson the day before. I would look for gaps in understanding, working with those needing extra help to ensure they felt secure in their knowledge. Outside of school hours, I created notecards and other aids for students I knew could benefit from additional tools. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, including English, Math, and Social Studies.
I am open to input from students, parents, and/or guardians to ensure the best, most personally tailored experience possible. I am easy to reach and will get back to you within 24 hours. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or to schedule a tutoring session!" less...
