"Hello! My name is Neena and I am an enthusiastic teacher who just finished my PhD in molecular biology at MIT. I truly enjoy teaching and I have dedicated much of my free time during my graduate career at MIT to teaching. In addition to research, I have TA'ed two classes (Introductory Biology and a lab course), volunteer tutored at Tutoring Plus of Cambridge, completed a voluntary teaching certificate program called the Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program, judged three science fairs, and also worked as a contributing author for an online biology textbook.

In fact, TA'ing Intro to Bio at MIT was one of my favorite graduate school experiences and I really enjoyed working with my students to help them better understand the material. I was even awarded one of three teaching awards from the MIT Department of Biology for these teaching efforts.

I believe that I have the experience needed to effectively tutor students taking high school biology or AP Biology, to a wide range of collegiate courses ranging from introductory biology, genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry. I have a few years of experience teaching in a classroom setting and tutoring students. I have worked with various students with varying degrees of knowledge and interest in the subject so I am adaptable to work with any student. When tutoring a student, I make it a point to help them truly understand the material and engage with the content in a way that builds problem solving skills. I do this primarily by identifying gaps or misconceptions, explaining this material, and then I have the student either teach this material back to me or use it to solve a question require critical thinking skills.

One of my greatest joys in teaching is observing that light bulb moment when the concept kicks in and the student has grasped the concept. I hope to have additional opportunities to help students understand biology, as I am so passionate about the subject and enjoy sharing it with others.
