"I'm Alex! I have a PhD in Biology and have taught high school, college, and adult learners in both the classroom and out in the field. I'm passionate about biology, ecology, and conservation and about connecting people to the natural world. As a tutor and teacher I try to help people make connections by sharing my passion and by using real world examples.

I have a diverse background in the sciences. I have a Bachelor's in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut where I also completed the pre-med track. Instead of medical school I decided to pursue research and got a Master's in Environmental Science from Yale. Finally (!) I pursued a PhD in Zoology at Southern Illinois University before transferring to Florida International University to finish up. I work mostly on amphibians and reptiles throughout the United States and Latin America; but broadly I focus on conservation, disease ecology (and epidemiology), population genetics, and tropical biology. I've also been an EMT for more than a decade and have lots of physiology and anatomy background as well.

I work in research so my schedule is very flexible! I'm available mornings, nights, and weekends and prefer to do online tutoring, although may be able to meet in-person as well.
