"My name is Anne, and I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Michigan University with a BA in English and a BS in Psychology. I received my MFA from Emerson College with a specialization in poetry. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and received the Academy of American Poet's Prize upon graduation. Since then, I've been a professor of English and the humanities for 17 years at several colleges. I've published six books of poetry and I've been published in over 200 literary journals. I was a Best of the Net recipient, a Barbara Deming Memorial Grant recipient, and a Pushcart Prize nominee. I currently run a blog on mental health.

I was fortunate to have professors who nurtured my passions and inspired me to have confidence and pursue my ambitions. As a professor and tutor, I value working independently with students so that their writing highlights their strengths, passions, talents, and curiosities. I see reading and writing as a process of exploration: developing empathy, documenting history, and sharpening critical thinking. As much as possible, I seek to restore joy and dismantle shame when it comes to reading and writing.

I have experience tutoring and teaching students at the high school and college level, and I've also taught SAT prep for the reading and writing sections of the exam.
