"Hi, I'm Dion! I graduated from the University of Washington in Spring 2025 with a 3.85 GPA, where I majored in Physics and minored in Education and Music. I'm passionate about making math and science approachable and enjoyable to everyone, especially people who have struggled with it in the past. I enjoy focusing on general concepts and fundamental skills that help students get to the root of any misconceptions, and understand how to approach similar questions in the future, since that is what helped me to be successful in the physics major.
During my time at UW, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant for introductory physics classes for 2 quarters, as well as a physics tutor at UW's Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment (CLUE) for a full academic year. As a TA, I taught classes in a lab setting where I helped students gain basic lab skills, such as taking good data, understanding and using uncertainty, visualizing their data in useful ways, and combining what they learned into a report that can be easily understood by others. In the tutoring center, I primarily offered college students one-on-one homework help, where they would come in with questions about homework or lecture. I find it harmful to assume what students might know, so in these sessions I used a Socratic Questioning method. I would ask students many questions about what they already know so that we could collaboratively build off of this knowledge base and discover gaps in reasoning. I would then like to ask students questions that had them consider what they would need to know to fill in this gap, providing explanations and guidance along the way. I've found this has helped improve student foundations and self-confidence in their content knowledge.
While I specialize in physics, I also have experience in tutoring Calculus and high school math. I encourage students to come in with questions and/or materials that they want help with, and I'm receptive to any resources or feedback that can help me best support student learning." less...
