"Hi, I'm Jordan! I have a degree in English with a writing emphasis. My own writing has won awards like the B.G. Knepper English Award, and has been accepted for presentation at the Sigma Tau Delta National Convention for English Writing. Over the course of my education, I realized that traditional classroom settings aren't always well equipped to teach students effective writing and rhetoric skills, and I decided to start tutoring in hopes of closing that gap. I disagree with the idea that any person is just a "bad writer" and that's it-- writing skills aren't a talent that you have or don't, they're a muscle that can be exercised, and I want to give more people the support do just that. My goal is to help students develop a foundation of knowledge, resources, and techniques, such that they can start to answer their own questions when it comes to writing. The endpoint of this teaching style is that, with time and practice, the students I work with can gain enough experience to carry them through a writing project mostly on their own.

I have several years of experience as a writing tutor, both online and in-person. My main focus has been helping undergraduate college students write academic papers, but I've helped students from 7th grade through the graduate level, with everything from bibliographies, to research papers, to admissions essays. On top of helping students refine their writing on a content level, I've also worked one-on-one with some to establish better foundational knowledge in English grammar or academic citation styles (APA, MLA, Turabian).
