"Hi there! My name is Marissa and I'm currently a middle/high school English teacher at a rather small school called BOCES. I work with students independently from 7th to 12th grade to help them gain their credits to graduate. I'm used to working independently with students to reach them academically and try to add a positive, engaging learning environment. Understandably, no one wants to learn something new if they are bored with it. My main goal is to help students gain confidence in the subject of English, whether it's reading or writing, in order to perform more successfully in the classroom.
Personally, I play several sports and enjoy engaging with students to find new hobbies to enjoy. I think building a positive rapport or relationship with students only assists with understanding the concepts in English. There are many ways to practice ELA related skills with texts that appeal to a student's interests. I have continually attempted to use this strategy to further support my students understanding while reading and/or writing. I have taught English for seven years now across all grade levels. Additionally, I have extensive experience with tutoring students for the ELA New York State Regents and enjoy prepping students for this academic milestone. My instruction includes modifications to support IEP or 504 plans appropriately, along with various materials to guide students in comprehending difficult topics or texts.
I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible and develop an academic team between myself, the student, and the guardian(s). I'm easy to contact and will respond quickly to inquiries. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson! Thank you!" less...
