I have been a teacher, mentor and tutor for more than 10 years. My students range from freshman high school to adults (including college and graduate students). I started tutoring when I was in high school, where I volunteer as a math tutor in our high school after class program. I helped peers with all level math from basic algebra to AP calculus (BC). In college, I continued to tutor my peers, as a Chinese language tutor. I am a native Chinese speaker (Mandarin). I conducted one-on-one or group lessons (up tp 10 people) in Mandarin towards beginners to advanced students. I helped peers to review course materials, corrected their homework as well as hosted Chinese conversation hours. At the meantime, I also TA-ed for General Chemistry classes and organic chemistry laboratories. I would review course materials and tests with students in groups. In graduate school, I taught younger graduate students quantum mechanics classes, where I also helped them review course materials and prepared them for exams. I also had more than 10 mentees during my graduate school. They are mostly undergraduate students (freshman-senior), younger PhD students and working adults (lab technicians). I trained them one-on-one on how to conduct scientific research and critical thinking. I also made course materials to teach them biochemistry and molecular biology. My students across the board commented that they felt very comfortable with me. They weren't afraid of making mistakes or asking questions.
In conclusion, most of my teaching experience is one-on-one mentoring. I develop my teaching plan together with my students and I made complex concepts easy and fun." less...
