"I have a long history of teaching statistics, starting as a tutor to peers while an undergraduate student, majoring in Statistics at George Washington University. My M.S. is in Statistics (focus on Sampling and Survey Methods) from University of Michigan where I was both a tutor and a teaching assistance for both introductory and advanced level undergrad courses, even winning an award for outstanding teaching during this time. After graduation, I spent some time teaching courses at GWU: first 4 semesters of undergrads and later 4 semesters of graduate students. With rare exception, the students I taught were not majoring in math or statistics, so over the years I learned that my gift is explaining statistical concepts to non-statisticians.
As a professional statistician with over 20 years of experience, I have worked for International Organizations (UN), a U.S. Government agency, and a private company, which has given me plenty of real-world examples upon which to draw. I have supervised data collection, evaluated survey methodology, consulted with foreign governments, and mentored other statisticians. My main software is SAS, but I also have experience with using SPSS, R, Stata and other programs. I have tutored students at all levels from AP Statistics to PhD candidates.
I have excellent communication skills and after many years of tutoring and teaching, I am able to anticipate the challenges that many students face. I am also patient and understanding of different learning styles. I have developed multiple ways of explaining statistical concepts, often using examples pulled from newspapers or pop culture, to provide individualized instruction.
I know it may seem daunting and foreign right now. But with hard work, you CAN understand statistics. I say this based on years of experience with students at all levels and from diverse educational backgrounds. Contact me with any questions or to schedule your first lesson." less...
