"My name is Santos, I am currently a student at CSUEB majoring in computer science. throughout school I was that one kid/teenager people would often go for help which is kind of funny since I had no idea I would later become a tutor.

In my last year of high school I did community service and enrolled in a reading program for kids and for some reason something "clicked", I realized it was really fulfilling to help people learn. After a couple of months, I became a personal tutor and helped a couple of students in my area which I had known for years, eventually, I ended up applying to a middle school nearby as a bilingual instructional assistant who worked very closely with ELD (English Language Development) students for a year (I also did a homework club for about half a year), this is the most rewarding experience I've ever had especially since I was in that same program when I was a teenager.

My job duties included regularly helping middle schoolers translate their homework and explaining a wide array of topics, I also administered the ELPAC exam which is a statewide exam that determines whether you need the support of the ELD program or not. I earned a bilingual seal of biliteracy during high school which is basically a fancy sticker that legally says I know Spanish (I living in a Spanish speaking country for a bit over 5 years). I can tutor anything below algebra 2, Spanish, ELD, English, and hopefully soon ESL(I am working on that certificate). I also got an AP scholar award(means I passed more at least 3 AP courses in a year)

I am a pretty laid back tutor and have a lot of patience with students, I can relate a lot with the students and really tried to understand what they are going through which I think is the most important aspect about being a tutor(I have a LOT of stories about this trust me). I try and do my lessons a bit more fun compared to the conventional teacher oftentimes using different methods that I think the students will benefit the most." less...
