"Latin has been a passion of mine since I first studied it at Louisiana State University in 1986. After receiving a B.A. in English from LSU, I continued studying Latin and added ancient Greek. After two years of further study part time, I moved to North Carolina and continued studying Latin and Greek at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. It was there that I received a second bachelor’s degree, this time in Classical Studies, and completed the necessary coursework to begin my teaching career.
I’ve taught for twenty-five in the public schools of North Carolina, and spent four years teaching at a college preparatory school in Connecticut. During that span of time I have twice been a finalist for the county teacher of the year award, and received a Rotary award for teaching as well.
I have furthered my Latin studies by earning a master’s degree in Latin from the University of Georgia’s Summer Institute. I have also attended a summer abroad studying with Reginald Foster, the Vatican’s former Latinist, in the summer of 2004. I have been able to further my endeavors at spoken Latin by attending Conventiculum Latinum at the University of Kentucky.
During the course of my career, I have tutored students individually for at least five years. The aspect of teaching Latin that I enjoy the most is revealing to others the magic of unlocking meaning in words, phrases, sentences, and literature that, while it may be over two millennia in existence, frequently reveals the same hopes, fears, aspirations, and desires that we humans all seek to grasp and grapple with.
The study of Latin is as rewarding as it can be challenging. Please let me know if I can help you." less...
