"Hi there! I’m Luke :)

I hold a B.A. in mathematics and a B.Mus. (bachelor of music) in classical saxophone performance from Lawrence University, where I graduated cum laude. I started tutoring friends in high school, and quickly developed a love for watching students grow in confidence and ability. I strive to make a learning environment where mistakes are expected, successes are celebrated, and students feel safe asking questions.

I think students learn best when they’re working towards goals they set themselves, so I will work with you/your student to make a plan for our time together. I have a lot of passion for the things I teach, so my personal goal is always to foster that same joy in others.

I have six years of experience tutoring math students in courses including pre-calculus, calculus (AB, BC, and multivariable), and most undergraduate topics. I’d also be happy teaching earlier grades (for example in algebra or geometry).

My saxophone pedagogy is based on developing precise awareness of our bodies’ anatomy as well as the instrument’s acoustics, and using that to shape technique for a specific musical effect. As a music educator, I’ve worked with kids as young as seven. Most of my experience is in the concert/classical world rather than jazz.

As a neurodivergent person, I care a lot about finding ways to help neurodivergent pupils thrive!
