"My journey as an educator has been uniquely shaped by two vastly different, yet equally insightful, experiences: introducing young minds to the fundamentals of Arduino electronics and microcomputers, and teaching a plethora of students to swim. Teaching tech to curious kids aged 8 to 12 was a masterclass in breaking down complex logic into digestible, hands-on experiments. We moved from theory to tangible creation, transforming abstract concepts into blinking lights and simple robotics. This taught me not just how to structure a curriculum, but how to ignite a genuine spark of curiosity that drives self-directed learning.
However, it was my work as a swim instructor, fostering students to swim proficiently with weekly lessons in the span of a single quarter, that fundamentally defined my approach to tutoring. In the water, progress isn't measured by a test score, but by genuine, physical capability. When a student struggled with a stroke, I learned to metaphorically step into their mind and body. This practice of viewing the class from the student's point of view is now the cornerstone of my tutoring method. It allows me to pinpoint the exact moment or conceptual barrier where understanding breaks down, ensuring I address the root cause rather than merely patching over the symptom.
My tutoring method is therefore a blend of technical structure and empathetic adaptation. I treat every lesson as a personalized project, using the practical, iterative building blocks of electronics to teach problem-solving, while relying on the deep well of empathy from my coaching days to make sure the delivery is perfectly tailored to the individual learner. The goal is to cultivate not just mastery of the subject matter, but also a resilient, adaptive, and confident learner who can tackle any challenge with curiosity and self-assurance." less...
