"Hello, I am Nathan! I am currently in my fourth year as a high school math teacher, but I have been tutoring math for over 10 years now. I have by bachelor's degree in math from UW Madison, where I also went on to receive my masters in curriculum and instruction and a teaching certification. My experience tutoring began early in high school, where I discovered my passion for helping others come to enjoy the subject as much as I did. I began tutoring other students in my school privately. Throughout college, I branched out, tutoring student athletes for the UW Madison athletic department as well as tutoring at Mathnasium, a K-12 math tutoring company.
As a teacher, I began my career virtually, mastering online teaching over my first year and a half, integrating technology to make lessons more hands on and engaging. I began teaching algebra, and have taught it all four years of my career. I am on my second year teaching geometry, my first teaching precalculus, and have also taught algebra 2, trigonometry, and calculus 3 throughout my first four years.
My passion for math has always been rooted in finding deeper understandings and understanding the interconnected nature of each topic within the subject and getting students to find and experience that same joy. I have a very student-centered approach to teaching, introducing and explaining topics in a deep and meaningful way when necessary, but also trying to act more as a guide and draw on current student understanding of topics being explored when possible, leading to a more understanding over memorization approach as well as cultivating student passion for and fascination with the content. Along with that, being student centered to me means that each student needs a different approach and should be met at their current understanding and built up from there.
I look forward to working with you on your math education journey. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session!" less...
