"Hi, I'm Zabian. I graduated from Mercer University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Mathematics, as well as a minor in Information Science and Technology. I grew an interest in programming since grade 8, teaching myself how to code. I then knew that I would pursue a passion in technology. I have always found math to be interesting and would even teach myself new concepts just for the fun of it. Helping my classmates with their math assignments gave me a sense of purpose, helping others overcome their challenges in math. It always puts a smile on my face to see the joy students get when they finally understand the topics they once found difficult.
I've worked as a Math Instructor at Mathnasium for 3 years. I've helped students in grades K-12. Working here has helped me develop a love for teaching math and has helped improve students' math literacy. I worked in small groups of 5-10 students with different backgrounds, allowing me to apply different teaching strategies. I am currently a Math Tutor for Varsity Tutors (5+ years), where I mostly work with students in Middle School math to college-level math courses, such as Calculus 3, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. Each session is conducted online with one-on-one engagements, which allows me to create personalized lesson plans for each student. During my time at Mathnasium, I have adopted a Socratic teaching style. This allows students to use critical thinking and develop their understanding of a concept through questions and dialogue. This also helps me gauge each student's thinking process when approaching a problem and allows me to help them where needed.
Communication is key to keeping students engaged, so I always encourage students and parents to reach out whenever questions arise. I try to respond as quickly as I can. I look forward to working with you and assisting you with your studies!" less...
