"I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy, and extensive experience in the tutoring industry. I am able to tutor most subjects at a high school level, and can offer mathematics tutoring at all levels, be it K-12 or college level.

I have tutored pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, combinatorics, SAT & ACT prep (all subjects), creative writing, and high school biology, & geoscience. I also offer guitar lessons.

I am passionate about tutoring mathematics. And I think that mathematics as a subject lends itself to one-on-one tutoring. My experience is that through one-on-one instruction, most students who are below grade level on math can get caught up, and most gifted students are able to excel beyond the confines of what the school system offers.

Mathematics in a classroom setting is boring. It usually consists of the instructor teaching a formula for solving a certain type of problem, and then the students applying that same formula over and over again. In any class of twenty students, four or five find the mathematics too simple (and therefore boring), and another group are too far behind (and therefore bored). When I was in high school, I remember constantly asking my teacher questions, only to get an answer of, "that's outside the scope of this class." That won't happen in a one-on-one session with me.

I contend that math at any level can be taught in a way that encourages the student to think critically, rather than dictating to them how the problem is solved, and then doing the same type of problem over and over with different numbers. Especially one-on-one tutoring. When I tell people I majored in mathematics, usually the response it, "ugh, I HATE math." But that's a shame, because mathematics is a beautiful thing. And I think through one-on-one tutoring, I can help give people that spark.
