"Hi, I'm Eric! I'm currently work full time as an Actuary and part time as a competition math coach. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S in Mathematics at Cal Poly SLO. I have a strong passion for mathematics and mathematics education. Throughout my math career, I realized that, for some reason, math is one of those subjects people often dislike and struggle with. I work with students to try to make math understandable and help them develop an appreciation for the subject.
I have several years of tutoring and teaching experience at the elementary, middle, high school, and undergraduate level. I've worked at math tutoring centers like Mathnasium, taught classes in Precalculus and Remedial Algebra, have been a math TA at Cal Poly, and have led STEM related summer camps. I love working with students and helping them reach their 'aha' moments in mathematics. When it comes to tutoring/teaching, I like to take a holistic approach and teach students how to become life-long mathematical thinkers. I believe it's important to teach students skills beyond the specific content and to create life-long learners. Every student comes with different needs and levels of mathematical ability. I work with students and parents to figure out what works for them and help them achieve success. I teach with an emphasis on mastery over memorization. I like to ensure that a student has a strong conceptual understanding of a topic and then allow them to apply their knowledge through various practice problems.
I can tutor a variety of mathematical subjects ranging from ACT/SAT math, algebra, linear algebra, statistics, calculus, and even proofs based math (Abstract Algebra, Discrete, Real Analysis etc.)
I look forward to working with you! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions!" less...
