"Hello! My name is Kat, and I am a fourth-year medical student at Duke University with a strong foundation in STEM and a deep commitment to helping students succeed. I earned a 521 on the MCAT (99th percentile) and have extensive experience teaching and tutoring students from elementary school through college. Prior to medical school, I taught middle and high school STEM at a charter school in the Bay Area, including students with learning differences. I have taught subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Geometry, and AP Biology. For 4 years, I have also led neuroscience lessons for K–12 students, translating complex scientific concepts into age-appropriate, engaging material. In addition, I have provided one-on-one MCAT tutoring, helping students improve both their content mastery and test-taking strategy.
My tutoring approach focuses on understanding rather than memorization. I work closely with each student to identify knowledge gaps, strengthen critical reasoning and problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their abilities. I adapt my explanations to each student’s learning style, using step-by-step reasoning, visual aids, real-world examples, and targeted practice. Whether a student is preparing for a high-stakes exam like the MCAT or needs support in general STEM coursework, my goal is to help them feel capable, supported, and empowered to succeed independently. I strive to create a positive, patient, and encouraging learning environment where students can ask questions freely and grow academically. I hope to work with you to meet your goals soon!" less...
