I mentor students academically! This is a concept I coined several years ago because I was doing more than teaching and tutoring. I take a 360 view of the student and mentor him or her with study skills, organizational skills, time management, work ethic, diligence, and discipline.
I do everything in my power to bring the best curriculum AND the best teaching practices. I constantly evaluate my effectiveness. Contrary to most teachers, I view test scores as evaluation of my effectiveness. If I'm teaching a skill and the evaluation of the student's understanding of that skill is less than 85%, then I make changes.
I've taught middle school, high school and college level. I have a B.S. in mathematics from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from Jacksonville University. I've developed Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Business Calculus curricula. Given the compressed classroom schedules, I recommend a blended curriculum with e-learning online, tablet or computer-based resources in addition to paper/workbook resources. I choose resources that are easy to learn, NOT more difficult.
I expect all students to ACE my classes. Parents will always be allowed to log-in for status updates. Parents will always receive weekly progress updates in the form of emails. Parents will know the daily expectations and daily outcomes. I will develop a syllabus and update it as needed. I mentor students academically. I act as a surrogate parent. I expect students to excel and I work diligently to that end.
