"I'm Ginger, a first-year medical student! In college I was an Art Major with 4 minors: Spanish, Biomedical Sciences, Music, and Composite Science. In order to manage all of my interests I had to learn efficient study habits and many organizational skills that I love to share with students. As a student, if I don't understand a concept the first time, I usually need the idea explained in a different way. I bring this mentality to my tutoring sessions. In a classroom setting teachers are limited in their ability to give individualized attention, but in a tutoring session I strive to engage my students and provide clarification when needed. Generally, I ask the student to send me what they want to go over in a lesson. At the beginning of the lesson I will see how confident the student is in the material. Then, I will explain the concept if necessary and then practice with the student! Of course, this method can be adjusted depending on the subject and student's needs.
I began tutoring in high school to my peers and continued through all four years of college. In total, I have been tutoring for 8 years and have experience with all age groups. I worked as a tutor at my high school, providing one-on-one tutoring and group tutoring sessions several afternoons of the week. In this setting I tutored in various Math courses, AP courses, and foreign language courses. In college, I tutored kindergarten through middle-school children from underserved areas weekly and helped them complete their daily homework. I have also worked as a group tutor for the ACT through this same organization. Besides that, I do freelance tutoring and have been working with students in college-level Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Statistics.
My favorite part about tutoring is being able to help others succeed. There is no better feeling than watching students gain confidence in their problem-solving abilities. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
