"Hi! I’m Jerome. After obtaining a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at Iowa State University, I spent 28 years doing research in electronic materials for a major US chemical company. Twice I received corporate recognition for my research and ability to develop and commercialize innovative new products for my customers.

After retiring, I began tutoring chemistry and statistics to high school and college students. I enjoy interacting with students as they prepare themselves for their future careers. I’ve been actively tutoring for more than 10 years, and have helped hundreds of students to gain confidence and competence in their studies.

My tutoring style is to help students understand concepts by providing them with a variety of examples, charts, diagrams, and problems that we solve together. Then we’ll check comprehension by looking at additional problems where the student takes the lead, and I can help them stay on target if they begin to stray. I like building rapport with students so they know they can ask anything without the fear of being criticized harshly.

I have extensive experience with EXCEL, TI-83/84 calculators, Statcrunch, Minitab, and other tools for completing statistics calculations. I often find that students have great calculators but haven’t been shown how to get the most benefit from them. We’ll spend time as needed so that students no only know which formulas are appropriate, but how to actually execute the formulas on their calculators to get the correct answers.
