"Writing is an essential skill, and for older students, writing is a way to introduce themselves to colleges and potential. Many young people, however, find writing a daunting prospect, more like a prolonged trip to the dentist than an opportunity to share ideas and experiences.

My goal is to guide students to be stronger readers and writers, to teach the strategies and skills they need to craft academic pieces and personal narratives they feel proud of. They learn to construct a topic and theme that speaks to readers and to shape an effective argument or story. They can emerge from the writing process with a clearer understanding of their writing strengths and how to overcome obstacles.

I am an experienced educator and teacher of literature and writing. I began my professional life as a clinical psychologist and hold a Psy.D. in Psychology, an M.A.T. in Secondary English, and a Graduate Certificate in School Administration and Supervision. I have worked as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator and as an English teacher in the IB Diploma Program at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Chevy Chase, Maryland. I also taught for a number of years at The Field School in Washington, DC, where I served as English Department Chair and Head of the Eleventh Grade.
