"Hi, I’m Ella! I graduated with honors from Wesleyan University in 2023, with a double major in English Literature and Philosophy. I’ve been passionate about reading and writing my whole life, and college allowed me to pursue this passion in my own studies, and also through various clubs and work opportunities I got to be a part of. I worked as a writing tutor for two years at Wesleyan’s Center for Prison Education and as an editor for a literary magazine on substance use, and both these roles taught me how to communicate with people about their own writing and help them develop their message and voice.
After graduation, I moved to Madrid, Spain, where I worked for the past two years as an English teacher at a bilingual primary school. At school, I worked with individual students and small groups to lead reading and speaking activities and to edit students’ writing. The role came with a lot of independence, and it was often my job to design small-group learning strategies tailored to the students’ individual needs and abilities while keeping in mind broader goals of literacy and communication. I also worked as a private after-school tutor for several students, and developed strategies for reinforcing classroom instruction.
All of my experiences have allowed me to develop a tutoring style that seeks to take each student’s individual interests and weaknesses into account. I believe the most effective learning is done by meeting students where they are, encouraging them to grow, and cultivating their interest in the subject.
