"Hi! I am Esther. I am a Reading Remediation Instructor, with over 10 years of experience. In addition, I am a resource room teacher in a K-6 school, where I mainly work with students on phonics and reading.
I graduated summa cum laude from Mercy College, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I continued on to Grad School. I graduated summa cum laude earning my master’s degree in education / special education from Concordia College. Upon graduation, I applied for and completed all the necessary tests and requirements to become a New York State Licensed Teacher. I am certified to teach Early Childhood, Grades 1 - 6 General Education, and Students with Disabilities All Grades.
During college, I was a tutor for students, grades K-6 in various subjects. My first job out of college was as a Resource Room Teacher, teaching students 1:1, focusing mainly on reading. I continued working at that school for 6 years. I then moved on to a position as a resource room teacher at a different school, providing reading remediation in a 1:1 setting. I am currently working at that school. All these years, I have tutored reading privately, in addition to my school job. I have over a decade of tutoring experience.
Over the years, I took many courses and trainings in reading. I hold a Science of Reading Fundamentals Certification from SUNY New Paltz. I am trained in Wilson, Fountas & Pinnell & ReadBright literacy systems. I am also trained in performing reading assessments, so I will know what parts of decoding and reading your child needs remediation in.
My tutoring approach is to introduce the topic in a creative way, then teach the material. I provide the student with worksheets, games, hands-on activities, sensory materials, art supplies and other materials to review the material we had covered. We end the session with the student reading a book (on the students' level, focused on the topic we just covered and I ask the student comprehension questions." less...
