"Hello, I’m Erica! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education (PK-4) and a Master’s Degree in Reading (K-12). I am also a certified Reading Specialist. I began teaching in 2011 and spent my first three years in the classroom as a 3rd grade teacher. I then spent two years spending half of the school day teaching 3rd grade and the other half providing reading intervention to students in grades K-12. In my current position, which I’ve held since 2016, I provide dyslexia intervention to students in grades K-12, supervise paraprofessionals providing reading intervention, and serve as a literacy coach to classroom teachers.
I have a passion for working with students to help them achieve grade-level reading skills. I enjoy working with students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade to develop the phonemic awareness and phonics skills they will need to become successful readers. My experience with older struggling readers has shown me that these students can fill in gaps and reach success with the right resources and mindset!
Regardless of the age of the student, I use assessment data to identify areas of strength and weakness, then plan individualized instruction based on the Science of Reading to help that student achieve grade-level reading skills.
I have a Master’s Degree in Reading and over 10 years of experience working with students of all ages in the areas of reading, grammar, and vocabulary. I have a variety of strategies to help build skills in these areas.
I have received intensive training in the Science of Reading, including Orton-Gillingham training, and have 8 years of experience working with students addressing phonics deficits. I also have experience teaching the 6 syllable types that will help students as they learn to decode and gain understanding of phonetic patterns.
Reading and spelling are reciprocal skills. Building one skill will strengthen the other. My experience in the Science of Reading and experiencing with phonics instruction allow me to provide support to students" less...
