"Hello, I am a current NJ Certified Reading Specialist with an Orton Gillingham Certification from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Each year, I am invited to speak at the New Jersey Dyslexia Conference. At my workshop, I teach teachers how to use research-based instruction to help students who are below grade level. My journey as a reading specialist began as I watched my own children’s reading develop and as I guided the instruction of so many struggling students who have passed through my classroom door. I believe that the key to learning is to find the modality that best fits the learner. These children have taught me to look at the individual, not to assume anything, and to be flexible toward change.

I have been a reading specialist for over 8 years and have tutored many children in the areas of reading, writing, and phonics for over 5 years. As a reading specialist, I work with teachers to assess and identify the students that need reading and writing support. I then work with these students in small groups and individually to further assess their reading abilities and identifying deficiencies. I can then create individualized lessons to meet the needs of each child. I use Orton Gillingham to strengthen decoding skills, fluency rates, and develop strong comprehension strategies. Through a variety of multisensory instruction strategies and learning games, I can teach students how to read and write. I always show students how they can transfer the skills they learn in tutoring to their independent work and their classrooms!
