"Hi there! My name is Lucas, and I recently graduated with degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Chicago. I'm very passionate about the intersection between biology and chemistry and am truly fascinated by the seemingly invisible chemistry going on in our bodies that make us who we are. With 3 years of experience as a teaching assistant, I believe strongly that solidifying students' science skills them up to understand the principles of nature more deeply. In addition to practical knowledge, I believe that a science education offers unique opportunities for critical thinking that can be applied in many other areas of life.

I began as a teaching assistant for college calculus during my senior year of high school, where I led weekly-problem solving sessions, held office hours, and supported students one-on-one. This early experience sparked my interest in teaching and gave me foundational skills in explaining complex material clearly and adapting to different learning styles.

In college, I spent two years working as a teaching assistant for molecular biology and genetics laboratory courses, where I taught about 25 undergraduate students (mostly ages 18–22) weekly. I led the instruction, gave weekly presentations explaining core experimental techniques, and guided students with successfully completing lab assignments. I also guided students through experimental design, troubleshooting, and analysis. My teaching approach emphasizes clarity, patience, and helping students build conceptual understanding alongside technical skills.

Outside the classroom, I’ve also provided peer mentorship in STEM through UChicago’s Phoenix STEM program, supporting first-year undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds. I’m comfortable working with a wide range of learners and tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. I'd be more than happy to discuss your learning needs and how I can best support you. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
