"Hello! My name is Cindy, and I have spent the past three years teaching Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Environmental Science in both middle and high school classrooms in Virginia and Washington, D.C. I’ve worked with students ages 12 and older in classes of 20–30.
I hold a Master’s degree in Nutrition Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where biology and biochemistry were central to my studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Brandeis University. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a registered dietitian for seven years, helping individuals understand how science and nutrition connect in daily life.
I have passed the Reading, Writing, and Math Core Praxis exams, as well as the Middle School Science and Biology Praxis exams. I use diagrams and visual tools to help students make connections with abstract concepts. I draw upon my scientific background and real-world experience to create inquiry-based, hands-on lessons that are meaningful, engaging, and fun. I know that science can sometimes feel challenging, so I strive to build a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and exploring how concepts connect.
In addition to classroom teaching, I met with students regularly during office hours, where I could focus on their individual learning needs in a one-on-one or small-group setting. These experiences strengthened my ability to personalize instruction and help each student reach their full potential.
In addition to biology, I have a strong interest in chemistry and look forward to tutoring students in both subjects. My goal is to help each student build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop a deeper appreciation for how science explains the world around us.
I look forward to partnering with you to support your child’s academic success." less...
