"I am a highly motivated scientist who graduated magna cum laude with a double major in May 2013 from Northeastern University. I have both my B.S in Biochemistry as well as a B.A in Asian Studies with a minor in Chinese language (Mandarin). Following undergrad, I went directly into graduate school and graduated in December 2018 with my Ph.D in Biochemistry from Ohio State University where I completed my thesis in the lab of Dr. Hannah Shafaat. My work focused on engineering metalloprotein scaffolds to better understand the underlying mechanisms relevant for energy-related catalysis. During my five years of graduate school I worked as a TA for both undergraduate and graduate level courses including, Biology for Non-Biology Majors, Thermodynamics, and Kinetics where I consistently received an overall student ranking above 4 (out of a 5 point ranking scale) on the Ohio State “Student Evaluation of Instructor” forms given at the end of every semester. My favorite part about teaching was seeing a student’s confidence grow during the semester and being able to see them make connections across concepts. This was especially rewarding in the classes for non-science majors because I could watch as students became excited about topics that they previously had no interest in!
I like to take an active role in tutoring students and be both an instructor and mentor. I’ve spent time teaching middle school science labs at Hilltonia Middle School in Ohio and had an active position at the Columbus Museum for Science and Industry (COSI). Currently, I am working as a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University in lab of Dr. Amy Rosenzweig focusing on microbial mechanisms for energy conversion and the underlying metal requirements of microbes. I also spend time at the Museum of Science and Industry bringing science to the community.
I offer a FREE 30-min consultation to better understand the needs of each student, outline the student’s goals for tutoring, and define an action plan to help each student reach their full potential." less...
