"Greetings, my name is Monique'. I have been interpreting since 2010. I did not have a background in sign language nor Deaf culture prior to enrolling in a Bachelor of Science in Education; ASL Interpreting degree program. Since then I have learned a lot and accomplished many milestones along the way including earning Top ASL Interpreting degree program student at Valdosta State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, obtaining and maintaining certifications and continuing to learn by regularly attending professional development opportunities.

I enjoy tutoring because I can relate to most of my tutees; because I am a NERDA (Not Even Related to a Deaf Adult). I learned a new, complicated, yet enchanting language as a young adult. As a matter of fact, I did not know anything besides the alphabet prior to enrolling in the program. As a result, I dealt with and overcame many obstacles, but learned and developed amazing coping and learning strategies. I look forward to sharing some of my tips, experiences and knowledge with others.

I have earned the following certifications: BEI, EIPA and SSP. I have also passed the NIC Written.

Trained on various sign systems including, but not limited to: ASL, SEE, PSE, Transliteration, CASE, Rochester Method, cued speech, etc.
