"I'm Amelia! I currently hold two college degrees; a bachelors in history and a masters in education. Both are from The Ohio State University. I am certified to teach social studies in the state of Kansas, grades 6-12 and I was previously certified to teach social studies in the state of Ohio, grades 7-12. Social studies encompasses lots of things! History, geography, political science, psychology, sociology, and economics. While US history is my favorite, I enjoy all things social studies related.
During my undergraduate degree, I was a course assistant for a social psychology class. I have extensive experience with writing papers for all social studies classes from my own schooling and that is something that has been very helpful when it comes to teaching others how to write their own papers. Many of my undergraduate classes did not have traditional exams, we had to write essays! I was also given the opportunity to assist students with writing papers and understanding concepts. I completed my masters degree with a 4.0 and learned so much about teaching online and teaching through transitional periods, as I graduated in the spring of 2020. I was student teaching during that semester and I was fortunate to spend a whole school year in a high school setting.
Most recently, I am a former middle school social studies teacher. I have very recently left the traditional classroom setting to pursue my next adventure; a masters degree in learning technologies. The hardest part of making the decision to leave the classroom was leaving the students. The relationships built with students was my favorite part of being a teacher. I loved getting to watch the lightbulb moments for students when concepts clicked and help them in any way that I was able to reach that moment.
Connecting and helping students is what I will miss the most from being a classroom teacher. I am easy to reach and eager to help, as well as learn the needs of new students. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
