"Hello! I'm Casey, and I've been working in education for 7 years, but I started tutoring long before that. My first official tutoring job was as peer general chemistry tutor in college. I have a Bachelors of Science in Biotechnology and 2 years of classroom teaching experience teaching science in public school. I've continued to teach private science and math courses online through my own business. I've always had a knack for breaking down concepts into their simplest pieces, and I've been told by many students that I make seemingly complex ideas simple and easy to digest. I'm here to help ensure that you don't get lost in the jargon, because when you break it down, every concept in science is one that can be understood through basic principals that you've learned just by living everyday life.
I have experience working in Special Education classrooms K-12, and I've worked with students that have vastly different learning profiles: those that were gifted but struggled with executive functioning or emotional regulation, those that had learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, and more. I love the collaborative experience of finding what is going to work for a particular student, and discovering their many strengths in the process!
My teaching philosophy is that education should be fun, self-directed, and relevant to the student. If you're not interested, you're not learning! So, how do we make the subject matter interesting? Do we need to come up with a song or story, or is it the thrill of the puzzle that motivates you? Or, do we need to understand the real life context of a given problem for you to be interested? You tell me, and I'll enjoy the challenge of creating a learning plan tailored to your unique and beautiful brain!" less...
