"Hi! My name is Arjan and I am currently a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles studying Physiological Sciences!

It was not until I started college that I discovered my passion for education. I started volunteering as a tutor during my Senior year of high school, where I taught elementary-level mathematics. I enjoyed this experience but most importantly, it taught me how valuable it is to educate others. Witnessing the happiness my students felt when they understood a concept they were once confused about gave me such a rewarding feeling. Once I came to college, I decided to grow my passion for education by becoming a Learning Assistant at UCLA. As part of the Learning Assistant program, I help facilitate classroom-size discussions with students enrolled in various science courses. During these discussions, I worked with students for equal amounts of time to truly ensure they all understood what was being taught to them. I developed different teaching techniques through this program, which contributed to improving my effectiveness as an educator. I currently serve as a Head Learning Assistant, where I help teach other Learning Assistants how to be successful educators as well.

Being an educator for the past three years has taught me how my knowledge is most useful when I can share it with others. I hope to establish a safe and inclusive learning environment with my students, where they feel comfortable asking me questions and engaging with the lesson plans I create. I have found it to be effective to work with students through problems, rather than outright give them the answer, to provide them with maximum benefits from the tutoring sessions I have with them.
