"I'm Denise, retired from 30 years of teaching in the elementary grades K-5th. I've taught in self contained , departmentalized, home school and college classrooms. I've substituted in 6-8th grades, assisting with any subject needed. I moved from classroom teacher to elementary assistant principal for 8 years then on to elementary principal for 3 years. During the past 4 years I've supervised some 95 student teachers and evaluated their teaching style for local colleges. I love teaching and have enjoyed all these different stages of my career. Now I would like to put to use this knowledge and experience to helping those students who struggle with learning or need just a little extra help understanding a specific subject.

In my years as an elementary educator, my classes on average scored at or above on the state tests we were required to administer. This meant they scored at or above state standards on math, reading and writing. Not only did I address their specific need in regular class but had tutoring sessions after school for an hour for any child needing extra help. Once evaluating their skill set, a specific plan was set in place to assist that child in understanding the subject and move him/her to success. However, in the tutoring sessions, I also taught lessons for science and social studies, whatever the subject in which the student was struggling. I want students to enjoy learning and discover their strengths not just their weaknesses.

Learning is a lifelong process that helps us all reach our fullest potential. And that is what we want for our children. I have taught all types of students from regular ed to G.T., special ed, autistic, life skill and ESL students.
