"This is my 25th year as an elementary school teacher. In 1997, I graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I spent 6 months in Czech Republic as an English a Second Language tutor. Utilizing my bilingual/bicultural endorsement, I became a second grade bilingual teacher in Houston, Texas. I quickly fell in love with teaching my first year with ten bilingual students. In 1999, I passed the Texas Oral Proficiency Test in Spanish, after attending an intensive course in Guanajuato, Mexico for three weeks.

I returned to Indiana to be closer to family, settling in Indianapolis. I have taught second and third grades as a classroom teacher in Indianapolis. In 2007, I earned my master's in elementary education from Ball State University. As an English as a New Language teacher, I have taught kindergarten through eighth grades. I have been trained in Writer's Workshop and have been coached in my classroom by a published author. As a result, I excel at teaching the reluctant writer to adore writing. In addition, I am very skilled at teaching decoding and comprehension strategies. I love tutoring because I can tailor my lessons to a student's specific learning style.
