"I'm Marlene. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Minot State University in Minot, ND. I was a teacher for 30 years, during which time I taught first, second, and third grade. My favorite subject to teach was reading. For the last 3 years, I have been a Dyslexia tutor. I love tutoring because the students really get a chance to shine in a small group or individual setting. I love to see how their improvement with their reading skills really impacts their confidence and self-esteem.

My tutoring sessions will provide direct instruction in phonics, sight word practice, and spelling. My lessons provide the students many opportunities to practice the skills.

I am a trained Reading Recovery teacher. This program is excellent for first graders who are struggling with learning to read and write. I am trained in the Fundations program. Fundations is great for kindergarten and first grade students who are struggling to learn letters and sounds. It also provides instruction in letter formation.

I am also trained in the Wilson Reading System. This program is excellent for second through fifth graders who have trouble decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling). It provides the students with targeted phonics instruction to help them become proficient readers and spellers.

I have been a Dyslexia tutor for the past three years. I have been trained in the Wilson Reading System. This program gives systematic, targeted instruction to help the students gain automaticity in decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling).
