"I have a Master's degree in psychology from New York University and extensive experience teaching and tutoring hundreds of high school, undergraduate, and graduate-level students in test preparation (GRE/SAT), Statistics, and Psychology. I have also tutored high school math subjects including pre-algebra, algebra I, and geometry.
I have taught GRE & SAT courses covering all content and components (quantitative/verbal/writing) of these exams. Using my degree in psychology, I deliberately provide psychoeducation related to test preparation including goal setting, test taking strategies, maintaining motivation and attention, and managing stress and anxiety; all of which I have found to be critically important in improving scores. As a research associate by trade, I believe that data should guide the effective use of our time together, and so I regularly prepare test gains graphs and performance analyses for all my students regarding common mistakes, strengths, weaknesses, and score changes. I emphasize tailoring strategies to maximize individual student improvement, and I assign homework to solidify mastery of material. Previous SAT test prep students have regularly seen gains of 200+ points within 6 weeks under my direction.
In statistics, I specialize in teaching social science students, but I am happy to teach towards other disciplines, as well as AP Statistics for high school students. Specifically, I address conceptual material, teach computational procedures, and employ the use of SPSS statistical programming for topics such as data description, variance and variability, hypothesis testing (e.g., t-tests, ANOVAs), correlations, and regressions, among other things. I am also willing to tutor exclusively in the use of SPSS and syntax writing for those who need more specialized computer training.
I also tutor within the social sciences (Psychology & Sociology). My undergraduate triple major in psychology, sociology, and women's studies, along with my master's degree in psychology afford me a broad knowledge" less...
