"Hi, I'm Shakira! I graduated as the Salutatorian of my high school and received a Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology. I am well rounded in all subjects for K-12 and am able to tutor college-level science classes such as Introductory Biology and Anatomy. As a college alumni, I am aware that the teaching style and abilities of teachers/professors are most important for students' learning rather than the subject itself. With my previous tutoring experiences, I have acquired the skills to help students enjoy their learning while understanding the material.

Previously, I was a learning assistant for college-level introductory plant biology at UC Davis for a year (3 quarters). I tutored students and guided them on how to approach the material. Some of the key concepts I tutored include phylogenies, parsimony, and endosymbiotic theory. I taught these students online in group settings. If a student struggled with the material during the group sessions, then I would tutor them during one on one sessions to ensure privacy and allow them to feel more comfortable with asking questions. Additionally, I have tutored 6th graders for a year during afterschool hours. I tutored students in person at their school. I taught them first in groups and then worked with each student individually. Some of the topics I taught include ratios and proportions, negative and positive numbers, equivalent equations, and pre-algebra.
