I am a current 4th year medical student. I make a point to respect the student as a learner; getting things wrong is a natural part of the learning process and is how we learn to improve and grow. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's of Science in both Molecular Cell Biology and Sociology. I started tutoring 1-on-1 in medical school because I learned that I had a passion for helping my fellow peers learn new material. My peers especially liked how I was able to break down complicated topics. I have since accumulated 2 years of 1-on-1 tutoring in Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, AP US History, writing, high school chemistry/college general chemistry, biology, college application essay writing, and the MCAT. My students ranged in age from 11 to 34 years old.
For Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry, I use a collection of practice worksheets from previous students to help students practice topics in different ways and through repetition. I also use Common Core textbooks to understand where students' school curriculums have reached at a particular time so I can make sure the topics I teach are relevant for their curriculum.
For AP US History (APUSH), I provide students with the study materials I used as high school student that helped me score a 5 on the APUSH exam. I am able to adjust my tutoring sessions as necessary, whether the session be a DBQ/FRQ/LEQ writing workshop, lecture-based content review, or discussion-based content review.
I have worked as a writing center tutor at UCONN for three years where I gained valuable experience in editing and revising as well as instructing students in how to write in various disciplines, ranging from the ecological sciences to introductory English courses. I also helped many students in their graduate essay applications." less...
